Intramural Volleyball

Intramural Volleyball

With the Spring semester starting to pick up pace, a lot of students face higher stress. There are a multitude of things that can help with high stress, but the one I find the best is intramural sports or fun activities in general. The intramural sport for the Spring is Volleyball. Volleyball is a six versus six sport where the teams’ goal is to return the ball over the net within three hits. The first team to get the ball to hit the other team’s side of the floor is rewarded with a point. The score goes to twenty-five and is a best of three series. It is a relatively simple game that is hosted in Kinghorn with a casual and relaxing setting.

Everyone is welcome to play and structure a team. Teams are required to have a minimum of 6 players to meet the playing requirements. If you have very little volleyball experience, or none at all there is no reason to worry because there are separate leagues. The A league is for more experienced volleyball players who have a solid grasp on the game. The B league is for players who have little to no volleyball experience. That being said, there is a place for everyone. Also, if you want to play and can’t find friends or other people to play on your team, you can enlist as a free agent. Becoming a free agent allows other teams to invite you to their team and play for them. I highly recommend every Ohio Northern student to try intramurals at least once because of the excitement, fun and memories.

I have no volleyball experience besides junior high gym class and the same goes for my friends. So, we decided to create a team and participate. Our first game was yesterday and we lost, but it was a lot of fun. There is one recommendation I have for people playing and that is to wear shorts, it was pretty toasty in the gym. All in all, Volleyball is a fun sport to play intramurally and I hope to see everyone playing!

  1. My peer mentor is also on a intramural volleyball team! She told me that her team is not exactly the most experienced! I personally have no volleyball experience like you, but I am not as daring! I hope you have so much fun with this activity and good luck with the rest of your season!
