 Marketing with Instagram

Marketing with social media as a whole has never been as much of a necessity as it is now. Social media, more specifically Instagram, is a must-needed platform for marketing in today’s society. 62.3% of people worldwide and of all ages use some sort of social media, so it is an easy outlet to get noticed or spread awareness for your brand, company or business. The reason Instagram is center of conversation, is because the United States has the 2nd largest Instagram audience size among all countries worldwide. If you are a business and not using Instagram, you are already a step behind the competition because roughly 71% of active United States businesses use Instagram for marketing purposes. According to the textbook, 90% of Instagram users follow a business and 70% of online shoppers look to Instagram for a possible next purchase.

To get started marketing on Instagram there are a handful of steps that are encouraged to follow. The first step is to choose a username that ethically represents the business and is the same or similar to the other social media platforms for the business. This is to let viewers know what the business name is and to avoid the possibility of confusion with multiple different usernames. The second step is to add a profile picture that can depict a good representation of the business. A good example of this would be the company or businesses logo. Also, it should be encouraged to match profile pictures across all the social media platforms. The third step is to link your business’s official website in the bio of the page. If a consumer is interested in what you are marketing, they can refer to the official website to browse more in depth.

Next is the bio. Besides the website, there are more things that go into the bio. The bio is one of the first, if not the first impression you will make on a consumer when they visit your profile. For a professional account, the bio should explain who the business is and what they do. For Instagram specifically, the bio is limited to 150 characters, so precision and execution are needed. Lastly, changing the account to a “business” account. Once enabled in the settings, an account can be established as a business account and can add business hours, addresses and a phone number to their profile. All in all, Instagram is crucial to succeed in online and social media marketing.
