Midterm Stress and How to Deal with It
Midterm Stress and How to Deal with It
As well all know we are almost halfway through the Spring
2024 semester at Ohio Northern University, but that often comes with the price
of stress for students and professors. The majority of students spend a large
amount of time of their last couple weeks to cram in studying and preparation
for midterm exams. While it is necessary to study, I encourage all students
doing this to stay aware of their mental health and behaviors because large
amounts of stress tend to accumulate with studying. With studying comes
worrying, and with worrying comes more stress and even anxiety. It seems to be
a never-ending cycle, but there are a lot of different ways to relieve stress
and study like a pro.
The first tip I would give would be to take a fair number
of breaks. Taking breaks during long study sessions can help reduce brain fog,
while also increasing mental clarity and fortitude. For me it often has a
positive impact on my mood, determination and confidence too. Taking breaks is
crucial if you wish to study effectively. I would recommend taking a break
every hour or two. The second tip I would give would be to find other
activities to participate in during your free time. Going to the gym and playing
intramural sports are two things I enjoy doing frequently, so that helps me out
a lot. I understand that lifting weights and sports are not for everyone but I
insist to find something you enjoy. Reading a book, watching television or
going for a walk are all valid examples.
The final tip I would give would be to develop a
consistent routine or schedule. Setup specific times to study while also
implementing the previous tips. Getting into a routine can be difficult at
first, but with time it gets easier and can show tremendous amounts of educational
growth, maturity and discipline. In conclusion, I hope everyone who reads this
can leave with a key takeaway and use it to their advantage. Spring break is
right around the corner, you got this!
Here is a pic of my dog Diesel to help you get through this week;)
