Social Media Workshop

Social Media Workshop

This previous Friday, March 22nd Ohio Northern University hosted a social media workshop. The workshop consisted of a handful of experienced and successful speakers that utilize social media on a daily basis for their line of work. Attending the social media workshop gave me an abundance of knowledge and tips that I could potentially use if I pursue a similar career path.

Starting off the workshop there was a brief introduction from Professor Agozzino, that was followed by Amy Hertsenberg’s presentation. In Amy’s presentation, she discussed the heavy usage of artificial intelligence, or AI in businesses and on social media. It was a solid presentation and a great way to kickstart the event. Following Amy’s presentation, attendants had the option to choose one of two speakers to listen to next. The speaker I chose was Sally Stearns. Stearns’ presentation mainly consisted of the effectiveness of spreading brand awareness. Taking opportunities on social media was a huge way to do so. The main takeaway I had from her presentation was the three Cs. Connect, convert and cultivate. Sally also implemented multiple examples of brand interaction and some interesting statistics as well.

Following Sally Stearns presentation, attendants were once again offered the opportunity to choose between two speakers. The next speaker I decided to listen to was Dayton Barnett. Dayton talked about video creating and storytelling in event heavy environments. A few key tips Dayton included were don’t miss the chance to capture highlights of events, adapt to your surroundings and know your audience. In addition to his great presentation, he also had the largest crowd out of all of the presentations I attended, which makes me respect his composure and confidence to speak effectively. Following his presentation, we had an hour long lunch break.

Following the lunch break I attended two more presentations, one being Mallory Grayson. Mallory talked about the influencer impact a company can have even on a small budget. She also was a key contributor to the campaign for infantile spasms, which was a great success. After her presentation, I attended Brandon Daniels presentation. Mr. Daniels discussed mastering social media algorithms and strategies to increase user engagement. The largest takeaway I had from Brandon’s presentation was the point of adapting to performance metrics. Coming from a person who finds some interest in growing on social media, this way a very helpful tip. In conclusion, this day was great. I learned a lot from experts in a field I wish to pursue in the future. I am grateful for the time and knowledge these professionals shared with me!
