Vlogging

 Vlogging

With a consistent increase in social media presence and popularity, vlogs have become a new medium for blogging. Vlogging is video blogging and in essence is simply a blog post but formatted like a video. It consists of a vlogger too, which is simply just someone who talks to the in first person and sharing their everyday activities or plans. There are thousands of vloggers out there that have their own distinct style. I used to watch a vlogger when I was younger named Roman Atwood. He would do crazy things like fill his entire house with foam balls, making a giant ball pit. Vloggers talk about various topics and upload it directly to the internet for fans to watch. Vlogs can also be live videos for increased audience engagement.

As long as I can remember, vlogs have been around. However, they obviously haven’t been around for super long, so when did they originate? Vlogging originated in the early 2000s but discovered a huge leap in popularity with the release of YouTube in 2005. Today, YouTube has built a creative community for vloggers. This community offers a variety of benefits like studio production, support, advice, education, access to events and even more. YouTube offering those things to vloggers seems very generous. It is nice to see such a large company helping out people trying to become influencers.

Personally, I’ve never been super intrigued with vlogs. I’ve got my feel in the water with the industry but never understood what all the hype was for. So why is vlogging so popular? For starters viewers get a detailed view into the lives of people. These people could also be famous, so it makes viewers interested on what they do in their daily lives. Next, vlogs are extremely easy to engage and interact with viewers and fans. In conclusion, vlogging has seen a tremendous increase as of lately and will likely continue to grow.

  1. I've never understood the hype around vlogging either. Honestly, sometimes they're a little weird and uncomfortable to watch. Not to mention dangerous as some parents subject their children to unwanted attention and exposure.
